Accelerated Fronts in a Two-Stage Invasion Process

چکیده
We study wavespeed selection in a staged invasion process. That is, we study a model in which an unstable homogeneous state is replaced via an invading front with a secondary state. This secondary state is also unstable and, in turn, replaced by a stable homogeneous state via a secondary invasion front. In particular, we are interested in the selected wavespeed of the secondary front and under what conditions does the influence of the primary front increase this speed. We find three regimes: a locked regime where both fronts travel at the same speed, a pulled regime where the secondary front travels at the linear spreading speed associated to the intermediate state, and an accelerated regime where the selected speed is between these two speeds. We show that the transition to locked fronts can be described by the crossing of a resonance pole in the linearization about the primary front. In addition, we use properties of this resonance pole to derive an estimate for the selected wavespeed in the accelerated case and to determine the transition between accelerated and pulled fronts. Monitoring Lognormal Reliability Data in a Two-Stage Process Using Accelerated Failure Time Model
The reliability data is getting used to monitor and improve the quality of products or services. Nowadays, most of products or services are the results of processes with dependent stages referred to as multi-stage process. In these processes, the quality characteristics are affected by the quality characteristics in the previous stages, called as cascade property. In some cases, it is not possi...
متن کاملMonitoring the censored lognormal reliability data in a three-stage process using AFT model
Improving the product reliability is the main concern in both manufacturing and service processes which is obtained by monitoring the reliability-related quality characteristics. Nowadays, products or services are the result of processes with dependent stages referred to as multistage processes. In these processes, the quality characteristic in each stage is affected by the quality characterist...
متن کاملSpinodal decomposition and coarsening fronts in the Cahn-Hilliard equation
We study spinodal decomposition and coarsening when initiated by localized disturbances in the Cahn-Hilliard equation. Spatio-temporal dynamics are governed by multi-stage invasion fronts. The first front invades a spinodal unstable equilibrium and creates a spatially periodic unstable pattern. Secondary fronts invade this unstable pattern and create a coarser pattern in the wake. We give linea...
متن کاملTwo-stage Stochastic Programing Based on the Accelerated Benders Decomposition for Designing Power Network Design under Uncertainty
In this paper, a comprehensive mathematical model for designing an electric power supply chain network via considering preventive maintenance under risk of network failures is proposed. The risk of capacity disruption of the distribution network is handled via using a two-stage stochastic programming as a framework for modeling the optimization problem. An applied method of planning for the net...
متن کاملSpatial variability enhances species fitness in stochastic predator-prey interactions.
We study the influence of spatially varying reaction rates on a spatial stochastic two-species Lotka-Volterra lattice model for predator-prey interactions using two-dimensional Monte Carlo simulations. The effects of this quenched randomness on population densities, transient oscillations, spatial correlations, and invasion fronts are investigated. We find that spatial variability in the predat...
